On April 30, 2024, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) finalised its recommendations for all women to get screened for breast cancer every other year starting at age 40 instead of 50.
Wanda Nicholson, USPSTF Vice Chair and professor at George Washington University assured the public that the updated recommendations “will save lives.”
The American Cancer Society commended the update, stating, “Mammography continues to be the best screening tool to detect breast cancer and save lives.”
Sadly, it’s not that simple.
