[arguing that the same methods have appeared in top-tier journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine.] Well, that's a pretty low bar, since Richard Horton, ex editor-in-chief of The Lancet said '....much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses,...', and John Ioannidis’s famous 2005 paper "Why Most Published Research Findings Are False"

Let's keep using our old methods that have been shown to be flawed! That's the way Science (tm) is done.

How many more fake mantras MaryAnne where results barely better than Generalising from the unique are presented as statistically sound but no statistical theory would ever support them. We seem to have lost the will to impose high standard statistics as though being lazy in calculations in the 21stC is okay

I always thought Bhattacharya was a bit weak and double minded in the interviews on Sky by the outsiders. He got a big wrap. But was underwhelming in his responses. Am not surprised by this situation.
