Dr. Marine sounds like a wonderful and honest doctor, and there is the problem. Public health in the U.S. at least is a government organization. Its decisions are politically, not scientifically, motivated. The departments staffed by the same career bureaucrats who relish dictating exactly how citizens should live their lives while waiting to collect their fat pensions. They think the public is dumb, too, so they want directives, not nuance.
We desperately need change at the CDC, were so hopeful when RFK Jr initially brought in his team. (BTW I grew up about two miles away from the CDC building.)
Indeed, the challenge is getting these kinds of doctors into those positions. At this point, the administration will only nominate someone who is essentially guaranteed to pass confirmation.
Public Health is inherently Marxist, valuing the collective above the individual, and is therefore un-reformable. The CDC should return to its original and intended roles as gatherer and reporter of data about diseases and outbreaks, and refrain from making broad, prescriptive recommendations, which inevitably become mandates.
Maryanne, I don’t know about anyone else, but I feel overwhelmed with the recognition of the depth of corruption. Pharma controls who gets in, who get’s ousted. Somebody else I know just died of aggressive cancer commonly known on social media as turbo cancer. Nobody but independent science is investigating diseases or death linked to these toxic shots. It’s frightening that good honest people don’t make the cut only those who worship at the feet of pharma have a chance. I’m interested in your observation, do you think it’s worse now than when you had your show?
I’ve been doing this a long time - watching corrupt institutions put profits ahead of people’s health. So yes, I think it’s been happening for a long time. What made COVID different was the scale. It woke a lot of people up.
The reality is that institutions rarely admit they’re wrong, especially when they’ve approved, recommended, or mandated a product. Acknowledging harm means acknowledging their own failures, and that’s often the hardest thing for any institution to do.
People with integrity also tend not to last long in senior positions. Eventually, they’re pressured to comply, absorbed by the system, or pushed out. That said, I do see genuine efforts to put the right people into leadership roles. The challenge is that when appointments require congressional confirmation, there’s only so far a nominee can stray from the mainstream and still get approved.
Any decision-making based on fear rather than science, evidence and reason is not good decision-making. There must be a voice — or a body — of reason capable of overriding poor decisions when emotions and panic threaten to take hold.
Medical professionals and ordinary citizens around the world did speak out, often loudly, but their voices were drowned out by the hurricane of what may ultimately be remembered as one of the greatest public health failures of modern times. The foreseeable consequences are still unfolding.
Those who occupied positions of power during that period will be judged by history. As for Fauci... history will have its say.
It seems to me that it was a missed opportunity that Dr Marine was not confirmed as CDC director. He understands what needs to happen. Part of it would also be to get rid of those that are part of the mindset that created the problems of the pandemic.
I believe the answer to you question is yes. Whether or not Dr. Marine can walk the talk against such powerful industry control remains to be seen. His boss, RFK, Jr., is fighting the same tidal flow. I admire them both for being the Davids against Goliaths.
No government agency can be reformed and none can evade capture by the industries they "regulate" for the simple reason that industry owns the politicians and lobbyists that write the rules.
Ethics in public health-doubtful! The American Public Health Association issued new ethical guidelines in 2019. The AI program GROK gave Alabama State Health Officer, Scott Harris, an F comparing his actions and statements to the guidelines. Just as with the CDC, Harris has never admitted error or hubris. He has never been held accountable by anyone in Alabama government. It appears that public health has gotten away with their destruction.
At this point, even a simple “sorry, we got it wrong” would go a long way towards healing the wounds caused by public health policies during the Covid years. People are still really angry.
Harris in an April 2026 monthly committee meeting of state public health officials said “The biggest takeaway, in a way, is just what fantastic work people do,” Harris said in an interview after the meeting. “People who work in public health are just trying to make Alabama a better place. They just want people to be safe and healthy, and you can see that there.” Alabama has among the worst health care rankings and death rates for many diseases of all 50 states. The man is deluded.
Great ideas, but more appropriate from a minister or preacher than from a government bureaucrat. The law of Realpolitik requires shackling the forces of corruption, not just calling attention to the iniquities being perpetrated. Granted, it is a start, but real reform requires creating a system that corrals those in power by holding them accountable. One model that interests me is one modeled upon the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ANSI assembles representatives from a pool of interested consumers, regulators, clinicians, other service providers, scientists and impartial but interested observers to create standards for organizations regarding consumer products or services. All stakeholders are given an equal voice. While the potential for powerful interest groups remains, the ANSI system is predicated on the perception that the standards are created fairly. Once that perception is destroyed, ANSI's business model is done for. Therefore, they have a strong interest in ensuring that the interests of the public, science, and industry are all fairly served. As economist Byron Schlomach has pointed out, as a recent World Council for Health conference in Rhode Island, different certification or standards creating organizations could compete with one another to sell their services as producing the "most fair", "most balanced" or best service by whatever metric to force by marketplace rules the highest standards of governance. Worth thinking about, I'd say.

I can see why Marine didn't get the job, far too much 'for the people approach' at the expensive of the system and pharma

In other words, the CDC should do science, not politics. Good Luck!

Brilliant Article ! Doc MaDem slams another one into the goal net. ⚽️

🤦🏻♀️
The once-venerated MMWR is an industry propaganda rag now. The CDC needs a GoLYTELY prep then a full proctologic exam.
Now I am so sad. I dearly wish that Dr. Marine was running the CDC.
